MIRPURKHAS: Scores of Sindhi nationalists held a protest demonstration on Tuesday in front of the local press club against registration of a treason case against more than 100 leaders and activists of the Sindh United Party (SUP) and followers of Jeay Sindh Tehreek founder G.M. Syed for allegedly raising anti-state slogans during the November 3 celebration on the occasion of the Sindhi Culture Day.

Speaking to the protesters and media personnel, Lala Azhar Wajid Leghari, Abid Kori, Mustafa Shar, Sameer Leghari, Ali Murad and other leaders condemn the Town police for implicating a large number of nationalists in the “false” case.

SUP office-bearers strongly critised the SHO of Town police station for implicating the party’s Mirpurkhas district vice president Ubaidullah Banglani along with others in the treason case. Among the others booked in this case was senior activist Sarmad Leghari, they said, and deplored that the SHO had been involved in similar unlawful actions against Sindhi nationalists during his posting in Karachi previously.

They demanded a fair and impartial inquiry into the November 3 crackdown and immediate withdrawal of the case.

They urged the higher authorities to take notice of the “unlawful” police action. Else, a protest campaign would be launched in different districts of the province, they warned.
