CHITRAL: Disappointed over the attitude of a patwari and land settlement staff, father of four children in Parwak Bala village in Upper Chitral died by suicide here on Wednesday afternoon after he jumped into a deep ravine, police said.

District police officer Upper Chitral Aleem Jan told Dawn that the man identified as Nizarul Amin sent a letter to a local prayer leader before ending his life in which he had complained that the settlement staff had transferred his landed property to another person.

He added that the dejected person had complained in the letter that he wandered from pillar to post to retrieve his right but failed utterly and there was no other way left for him other than ending his life.

The DPO said that an inquiry had been launched under section 174 of CrPC and a case would be registered under the relevant section of Pakistan Penal Code after taking legal opinion against the land settlement staff.
