LOWER DIR: Secretary higher education department Arshad Khan has asked the students of public sector universities to focus on their studies and skills for coping with the challenges they have to face in the field.

He was addressing a laptop distribution function as the chief guest held at the University of Malakand (UoM) here on Friday.

UoM Vice-Chancellor Prof Rashid Ahmad, chairman IT department Sehatullah and others also spoke on the occasion.

The UoM directorate of IT organised the function for university students under the Prime Minister’s Youth Laptop Scheme’s Phase-III.

The guests distributed laptops among male and female students.

Earlier, HED secretary Arshad Khan and VC Prof Rashid Ahmad inaugurated Gul-i-Dawoodi exhibition at the varsity.

The UoM is celebrating its 22nd foundation week during which multiple events have been arranged.

Arshad Khan said UoM had had achieved a key position among the public sector universities of the country within a short span of time. He asked the students to play their active role in the country’s development through their knowledge and skills.

The directorate of students’ societies and Kamyab Jawan Markaz in collaboration with the department of Pashto also arranged a poet of the campus competition to mark the varsity’s foundation week.

SCHOOLS’ RECONSTRUCTION: The directorate of elementary and secondary education department’s Implementation Support Unit (ISU) with the financial support of Unicef has rehabilitated and reconstructed a total of 15 schools for boys and girls in the flood-hit areas of Lower and Upper Dir.

Field officer education Jawad Ahmad told journalists on Friday that the ISU also provided first aid equipment to the flood-damaged schools in both the districts.

He said ISU director programme Umme Laila Jafari and programme manager Pir Bahadar Ali Shah took keen interest in implementation of the projects.
