KARACHI: Mayor Murtaza Wahab handed over new machinery and vehicles worth over Rs900 million to the Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation (KWSC) in a ceremony held on Saturday.

The new fleet of vehicles included 40 sewage suction and mobile jetting trucks, which were modified and assembled locally with engines imported from Italy.

Speaking at the ceremony, the mayor, who is also the chairman of the KWSC, said that the machines were equipped with Euro 2 engines of 90 meters and capable of unclogging severe sewage blockages.

The modern machines, he said, had a capacity of 7,000 litres.

“In the next phase, 20 more combined jetting and suction machines will be handed over to the KWSC very soon,” he said.

“The Sindh government and Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) are collaborating with the World Bank to enhance the capacity of the KWSC that would soon become one of the most effective institutions,” he said.
