LAHORE: At least eight persons were injured when a sewer exploded due to lack of cleaning, resulting in accumulation of gasses, in Mughalpura area here on Sunday.

As per police and Rescue 1122 officials, the incident occurred in a market housing motorcycle workshops at noon when several people were present there.

As per initial reports, the blast occurred because of accumulation of gasses in the sewerage because of lack of cleaning, leaving eight persons injured and damaging motorbikes parked around the spot. One of the motorcycles also caught fire in the incident.

The explosion created panic in the area as the residents and the traders initially assumed it was a bomb blast.

The injured persons were shifted to hospital by the Rescue 1122 teams reaching the spot on being informed of the incident.

According to police, the condition of all the injured persons was stable and they were investigating the incident.
