PESHAWAR: A Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Food Safety and Halal Food Authority team recovered over 1,000 kilogrammes substandard meat during a raid in Bacha Khan Chowk here on Sunday, a spokesman of the authority told mediapersons.

He, however, said the butchers fled from the scene. He said substandard meat of young calves was being sold on the roadsides in very poor sanitation condition.

He said a case was registered against the butchers selling substandard meat.

The spokesman said the food authority teams also blockaded Peshawar Toll Plaza and Kohat Road and searched vehicles for substandard meat, milk, fish, honey, chicken and other food items.

He said 100 litres of adulterated milk was seized from a vehicle and heavy fine was imposed on its owner.
