KOHAT, Feb 2: A woman was killed and eight others were injured when commuter vehicles skidded off the road after a violent storm hit the area in the wee hours of Saturday.

The woman, identified as Jan Bibi, was killed when a pick-up (KT-2178) collided head on with an oil tanker (PRE-1867) on Hangu Road. The injured were rushed to the Hangu hospital.

The local Met Office recorded the velocity of winds at 40 knots per hour(72 kilometre per hour) accompanied by slight rain, first of the year 2002. The storm also disrupted electricity supply and cable transmission to various parts of the division.

The windstorm uprooted the tents of gypsies in the Kohat Textile mills area affecting hundreds of destitute people.
