ISLAMABAD: PPP Information Secretary Faisal Karim Kundi said on Thursday that party chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari will stand for the position of prime minister, and his father, former president Asif Ali Zardari, will be nominated for the role of president in the upcoming elections.
Flanked by other PPP leaders he said that incidents of terrorism were on the rise these days only because of faulty policies of the previous regime, which had resettled terrorists in the country.
Criticising the PTI government without naming it, as the party had been accused of negotiating with terrorists and allowing them to resettle in the country, he questioned, “Why were terrorists left unchecked?”
Discussing the reopening of former prime minister Zulfikar Ali Bhutto’s (ZAB) death sentence case, he demanded that all those involved in the “judicial murder” of ZAB, including individuals in the judiciary, politicians, lawyers, and others, must be exposed and given exemplary punishment.
The PPP leader expressed fear that restrictions could be imposed on social media during the next general elections and emphasised that it would be against the “freedom of expression” if any such curb was imposed on social media.
“People have the right to express their sentiments and opinions,” he added.
The PPP will not seek any support from any institutions, he said, adding, “It is better to sit in the opposition benches than becoming selected or a ladla (blue-eyed).”
Responding to a question about the acquittal of PML-N supremo Nawaz Sharif in corruption cases, Mr Kundi said the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) had always been used as a tool for arm-twisting political opponents.
