ISLAMABAD: During the current month, Islamabad Electric Supply Company (Iesco) detection teams checked 95,734 connections of different tariffs, of which 2,026 meters were found slow, four meters were tempered, and direct supply of electricity was being taken from 74 meters.

A fine of Rs 64.8 million was imposed by charging 1.39 million units, while 27 electricity thieves were also arrested by the police.

As per a statement, on the instructions of the government and the ministry of energy, the operation was launched on September 7, 2023, to suppress electricity thieves in all Iesco circles, in which Iesco enforcement police and district administration were continuing joint operations. Iesco Chief Executive Dr Mohammad Amjad Khan stated that Iesco was determined to make a lesson to the electricity thieves and eradicate their scourge from across the region.

In this regard, the government, power division, Iesco, and all institutions were on one page, and the goal was to suppress the power thieves who were enemies of the nation and institutions, he added.
