ENHANCING LIFE: Once it was akin to heresy if one believed that science could help people live longer. However, with the capture of tinny culprit bacterium under the microscope, it was evident that it was the cause of devastating disease outbreaks across the ancient world, including the black plague. Today, once the killer of humans, bacteria can be utilised to enhance human lives. A Russian scientist named Anatoli Brouchkov has found life-changing bacteria that help humans live longer. The bacterium, named Bacillus F, has been discovered inside the frozen mountains of Siberia. The scientists deem it to be humans’ key to immortality. Should we be worried?

GAS OUTAGES: The supply of natural gas to Rabia City in Karachi’s Gulistan-i-Jauhar area has been in a bad shape for a significantly long period. Supply shutdowns are in effect from noon to 5pm and then again from 10pm to 7am daily. Consumers who pay their gas bills on tie are understandably furious. The management of Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) should take stringent action against those involved in gas theft or those who fail to pay their bills on time. It is crucial not to punish the entire community for the unlawful actions of a few. This is simply against any principle of ethics.

MISSING GEAR: While strolling along the beach recently, I spotted two finely dressed horse-mounted policemen patrolling the area. One of them rushed to have a word with some stranger as he suspected him. After a short inquiry, the policeman returned and joined his fellow rider. It was a nice little moment to watch, but what made me concerned was the unavailability of proper riding gear, like paddock boots and breaches, for the policemen. The department concerned would do well to provide its staff with proper horse-riding gear. The protectors need to be safe themselves,
