BAHAWALPUR: Four members of Christian community suffered injuries when some parts of false ceiling of Yazman catholic church building collapsed during the Christmas festivities here on Monday.

The abrupt collapse of the parts of the false ceiling created panic among the participants who tried to rush out of the hall. However, soon the situation was brought under control by the senior Christians present there, informing the community members that there was nothing serious and dangerous.

On an emergency call, Rescue 1122 rushed to the church and rendered first aid to the four injured persons. Two of them were admitted to Yazman THQ hospital.

Meanwhile, Commissioner Dr.Ehtasham Anwar Mahaar and Deputy Commissioner Bahawalpur Zaheer Anwar Jappa distributed Christmas gifts among the Christian community members particularly children. According to DPO Syed Muhammad Abbas, as many as 1,000 policemen were deployed for the security of the Christmas participants in the district.

ACCIDENTS: A man was killed and over six others injured in three fog-related road accidents in Bahawalpur and Lodhran areas on Monday.

An unidentified car driver was killed at the spot while two children and their mother suffered serious injuries when the car in which they were travelling collided with a gas-laden trailer near Qutabpur toll plaza on Bahawalpur road due to foggy morning.

According to Lodhran Rescue 1122 spokesman Muhmmad Safdar, driver Muhammad Amjad (43) sustained serous injuries when his bus coming from Lahore to Bahawalpur collided with a trailer while negotiating a U-turn on Bahawalpur-Lodhran highway near Al-Badr hospital. The bus passengers remained unhurt.
