RAWALPINDI: Commissioner Liaquat Ali Chattha on Tuesday ordered speeding up work on Rawalpindi Ring Road by running day and night shifts.

He was presiding over a meeting held to review progress on Rawalpindi Ring Road and Daducha Dam projects.

He said though work on Rawalpindi Ring Road was being carried out with an extraordinary pace, they wanted to complete the project before the scheduled time for which double shift should be run.

He said that since the winter night was long the contractor should continue work at night as well.

He said that Work force should be increased for Daducha Dam and work on different sections should be started simultaneously. He said that these public welfare projects cannot afford any further delay.

Deputy Commissioner Hasan Waqar Cheema, Director Development Nazia Sudhan, Ashfaq Silhari PMU, Assistant Director Planning Ahmed Ali, Environment Expert Adeel Parviz, Nespak and FWO representatives participated in this meeting held at Commissioner Office Rawalpindi.

On this occasion, officials associated with the Rawalpindi Ring Road project, briefing the commissioner said the overall physical progress on this project is 8.8pc.

The utility services on the route of the project are being shifted permanently in order to avoid the cost and labour of frequent shifting if this permanent solution is not made.

Regarding the progress on Daducha Dam, it was informed that the work on the project has resumed from Nov 9. Currently excavation of spillway is underway. In the light of the decision of the Supreme Court, revised PC-I has been sent to Planning and Development Department Lahore.
