QUETTA: Maulana Muhammad Ramzan Mengal, a leader of the Pakistan Rah-e-Haq Party, formerly known as Ahle-Sunnat-Wal-Jamaat (ASWJ), is also set to contest for a National Assembly seat from Quetta.

According to the Election Commission of Balochistan, Maulana Muhammad Ramzan Mengal has submitted his nomination papers with the returning officer for the National Assembly constituency NA-263, Quetta-II.

When the federal government banned different militant organisations, ASWJ changed its name and got itself registered with a new name of Pakistan Rah-e-Haq Party with the Election Commission of Pakistan.

Before that, it was known as the Sipah-i-Sahaba Pakistan (SSP), which was declared a proscribed organisation during the regime of former military ruler, Gen Pervez Musharraf.
