KARACHI: The Sindh Solid Waste Management Board (SSWMB) on Thursday claimed to have launched a campaign to check violations of wage rules by contractors and other companies engaged in operations of the authority in Karachi.

In a statement, the board said that taking notice of such reports, SSWMB managing director Nasimuddin Meerani personally visited the Korangi district in the first phase of the campaign and monitored the waste management operation.

He also directed the officials concerned to issue notices and impose fines on those contractors who were not paying minimum wage to their workers and recruiting underage labourers for their operation.

“The MD SSWMB has made it clear to all companies carrying out operation in different districts under contracts with the authority that any violation of the Sindh Prohibition of Employment of Children Act, 2017 and non-payment of minimum wage to workers would lead to serious action,” it said.
