HYDERABAD, Feb 25: Nazims of three union councils and transporters have opposed a decision of the district government to ban entry of buses into the city. They warned that if it was done, tens of thousands of people of Hyderabad and adjoining areas would come out on the roads.

Speaking at a news conference here on Saturday, union council nazims Mehboob Abro, Yamin Soomro and Hussain Bux and transporters Anwar Palari, Manzoor Buledi, Murad Ali and others termed the decision of the district nazim to ban the entry of buses into Hyderabad anti-people.

They said the ban would deprive poor people of Hyderabad and adjoining areas and students of cheap transport facilities. They said commuters would have to change at least three vehicles to reach their destination. Not only this, they said, but business activities in the city would also be affected and at least 5,000 workers associated with the transport business would be rendered jobless.

They pointed out that those who had purchased buses on instalments would not be able to pay their instalments after the ban and they might become defaulters.

They said the decision was based on recommendations of a so-called four-member committee, adding that members of district, taluka and councils had not been taken into confidence.

They said the former district nazim used to think at least 10 times before taking any important decision but the incumbent nazim was in the habit of taking unilateral and arbitrary decisions.

They alleged that the Muttahida Qaumi Movement had ignored Sindhi people whenever it had come into power in the city.

Mehboob Abro said that recently when a fire had broken out in the taluka Mukhtiarkar’s office (rural), 58 Sindhi employees had been suspended for no fault of theirs and despite promises by the district nazim, they had not been reinstated.
