DERA ISMAIL KHAN: Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-Fazl candidate Kafeel Ahmed Nizami has highlighted the important role women could play in the upcoming elections to strengthen democracy in the country.

He stated this while addressing a meeting of JUI-F Women Wing, wherein 70 women belonging to different union councils announced to join the party. JUI-F Women Wing head Sana Nausheen was also present on the occasion.

Mr Nizami, who is JUI-F candidate for PK-113, welcomed the new entrants into the party fold.

He said the role of women could not be neglected in strengthening democracy in any society.

On this occasion, the JUI-F Women Wing announced to start a door-to-door campaign for party chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman, who is contesting elections from NA-44.

WALK HELD: A walk was organised here in the cantonment area the other day against use of plastic bags and to create awareness about keeping the city clean.

Executive officer of cantonment board Azra Bakht led the walk.

President Anjuman-i-Tajran Cantonment Bazaar Chaudhry Jameel Ahmad, general secretary Mohammad Zeeshan and other traders participated.

The participants were carrying placards inscribed with slogans calling for protecting environment through curtailing use of polythene bags and putting trash in dustbins.

Speaking on this occasion, Jameel Ahmed said traders would support the cantonment board in making the campaign successful.

Azra Bakht said the walk was aimed at creating awareness among people, especially traders, about the hazardous effects of polythene bags on the environment.

She said plastic bags also caused blockage of drains, so their use must be stopped. She commended the traders’ assurance of extending support to the board to curb use of plastic bags for shopping.
