SWABI, Feb 27: Announcements were made on loudspeakers on Monday in various localities asking students to attend schools following rumours spread by sum elements that educational institutions had been closed in the district for the third time by the government.
Educational institutions opened on Monday after remaning closed for 11 days. The schools remained closed for a week when protesters in Peshawar turned violent and damaged public and private property on Feb 16. Again it was announced on Feb 24 that institutions would remain closed till Feb 25.
Some students claimed that both private and government schools had been closed by the government for the third time because the protest demonstrations against the blasphemous cartoons continued unabated.
“When students did not turn up on Monday, we had to make announcements on loudspeakers,” said a school principal while talking to Dawn.
Meanwhile, parents said the closure of schools resulted in wastage of precious time for students.
They said that the decision to close schools for so many days was unjust because the students were supposed to prepare for their final examinations.
