TOBA TEK SINGH: Jhang police raided the house of former federal minister and PTI-backed candidate from NA-109 (Jhang) Sheikh Waqas Akram in the May 9 riots case but could not arrest him.

Sources said a case was registered against Mr Akram by Jhang police on May 9, 2023 on the charge of taking part in the riots that occurred after the arrest of PTI chairman Imran Khan.

Sheikh Nawaz Akram, the younger brother of Waqas, posted a video on social media in which he claimed that it was the fifth raid on their home to arrest Waqas and the police searched each room of the house in vain.

Nawaz said Waqas was unable to launch his election campaign and even his workers were being arrested to restrain them from doing door-to-door canvassing for the election.

It is to be mentioned that Waqas’s father, former tehsil nazim Sheikh Muhammad Akram, who is also PTI-backed candidate from PP-127, is holding meetings in his and Waqas’s NA constituency.

MURDER: The murder case of a man whose headless body was found in the crop fields of Chak 438-JB, Gojra, on Oct 13 last year had been traced and a man and woman had been arrested on the charge of murder.

The victim was later identified as Abdul Majeed, a resident of Wazirabad, who had property in Sadhar locality of Faisalabad.

Gojra DSP Aftab Ahmad Siddiqi told a press conference that Saddar police had arrested a suspect, Tahira Bibi of Chak 223-RB, Faisalabad, and she admitted to having relations with the deceased. She said she had also developed relations with one Irfan of Chak 366-JB, Gojra.

She said she asked Irfan to kill Abdul Majeed to grab his property. Irfan took Majeed to Gojra with some excuse where he shot Majeed dead, cut his throat and an arm and dumped his body into the crops.
