PESHAWAR: Worshipers protested against a prayer leader for discussing politics inside a mosque during Friday congregation in Hayatabad — a posh area located on the border between Khyber and Peshawar districts.

The police said the prayer leader started discussing politics allegedly campaigning for a candidate during the congregation, and Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf supporters stood up and protested against him.

“The issue was resolved on the spot,” SHO Tatara police station Hasmat Khan said, adding that ‘no one had filed any complaint against anyone.’

In a video, which went viral on social media, former PTI MNA Iqbal Afridi could be seen asking the prayer leader to stop discussing politics inside the mosque, and asking the people to leave the mosque.

The situation, however, was later controlled by other worshipers.
