RAWALPINDI: Azhar wins UC-42 by-poll

RAWALPINDI, Oct 16: Capt (Rtd) Mohammad Azhar, a candidate backed by the speaker, Tehsil Assembly, Sajjad Khan, has won the by-election in the Union Council No.42, according to unofficial results here on Tuesday.

Capt (Rtd) Mohammad Azhar has bagged 2,249 votes while his only rival candidate Raja Niaz secured 1,416 votes. The turnout remained very low as only 3,665 voters cast votes out of over 9,000 voters.

In the previous elections, 4,300 people cast their votes and at that time 60 candidates were in the run.

The polling was held in a peaceful manner in presence of heavy contingent of police.
