CHINIOT: The PML-N candidate from the National Assembly constituency NA-94 (Chiniot), Qaisar Ahmad Sheikh, was slightly injured on Saturday during a public gathering, after being hit by a “stone” thrown at him by an unidentified man, who immediately fled the scene after the attack.

As per eyewitnesses, Sheikh was addressing an election-related gatheringat Rajoa Chowk, in the city when an object thrown by an unidentified man hit his head, leaving him with an injury.

He was later taken to the Islamia Hospital, where his wound was dressed.

Qaisar Ahmad Sheikh, known for his anti-feudal stance and development works in the area, has been in politics since 1993. He has been thrice elected as an MNA from Chiniot (1997, 2013 and 2018). Mr Sheikh became chairman of the National Assembly standing committee on finance for two terms, and was appointed special assistant to prime minister during the last PML-N term in power.

Police are investigating into the incident.
