ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad police demanded Rs300 million to bear the expenses of the election duties.

Police officers told Dawn that the police requested the interior ministry for the funds of Rs 300 million to bear the expenses of the security duties during the election from February 7 to 9.

The amount is demanded to cover the expenses of meals for the officers and officials of the Islamabad police who will be deployed for security duties during the upcoming elections, they said, adding arranging vehicles and fuel for pick-up and drop-off for the officers, from a designated place to polling stations and other duty points.

Assistance from retired police officers and volunteers would also be taken to meet the requirements of the manpower during the polling day for security, additional backup, and disciplinary duties, the police added.

Moreover, the capital administration also requested 500 female volunteers for the female polling stations in Islamabad.

The retired police officers and the volunteers will be paid for their services during the election from the amount requested from the ministry, the police informed.

When contacted, the PRO for the police confirmed that the amount of Rs 300 million was asked from the ministry to bear the expenses of the security duties during the election.
