SUKKUR: US Deputy Consul General Jimmy Molden accompanied by a representative delegation of US consul general met Sukkur Commissioner Fayaz Hussain Abbasi at latter’s office on Tuesday.
Mr Molden and the delegation discussed social, economic and cultural issues during the meeting and the commissioner briefed them on state of education, health, development and other social sectors in the division.
Members of business community, Sindh Rural Support Programme Organisation (SRSPO), representatives of Sukkur IBA University and other academic institutions informed the diplomat about their institutions’ state of affairs and Mr Molden appreciated all of them.
He expressed keen interest in Pakistan’s development factors, efficiency, goals and objectives in the elimination of unemployment through production and business of date palm.
The business community’s representatives proposed that the United States should provide technical assistance to further the growth of agro-food industry and help Pakistani youth implement training measures for skills development.
The officers of anti-polio campaign informed the delegation about the efforts being made to eradicate polio from the country, they said.
Mr Molden said that dates had a prominent position worldwide, which was playing a role in strengthening the country’s economy.
The SRSPO’s efforts to empower women were commendable, he said and added that he wished the best for eradication of polio from Pakistan and appreciated the steps taken in the anti-polio campaign in Pakistan.
Earlier, Sukkur commissioner welcomed US Deputy Consul General Jimmy Molden and representative delegation of the US consul. He presented them Sindh’s traditional gifts of Ajrak and Cap and special honorary shields to all guests.
