LAHORE: Up to 3,551 vehicles will be used for election-related duties in all districts of Lahore division, which consists of the districts of Lahore, Sheikhupura, Kasur, and Nankana Sahib.

For Lahore city district alone, 1,695 vehicles will be at the disposal of the officers deputed for election duty ahead and on the day of the general elections on Feb 8, according to a briefing given to the officers in a meeting presided over by the Lahore commissioner.

It was mentioned in the briefing that there are a total of 7,958 polling stations in Lahore Division, including 4,357 in the provincial capital of Lahore, 1,412 in Sheikhupura, 1,519 in Kasur, and 670 in Nankana. In the meeting, arrangements for the transportation and logistics plan for the general elections 2024 were reviewed.

“The implementation of the code of conduct of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) must be ensured in every case. Moreover, all arrangements should be completed as per the timelines and SOPs of the Election Commission,” the commissioner said.

On this occasion, Deputy Commissioner Rafia Haidar said the transportation plan for all the polling stations of the provincial capital Lahore has been finalised.

“There will be 4,906 polling booths and 1,664 most sensitive polling stations of A category in Lahore Division. Transportation of polling material and other arrangements, including security as per SOPs, is also being reviewed,” she explained.

The commissioner also reviewed preparations regarding the transport provision plan, polling scheme, district control rooms, and duty rosters. During the briefing, it was also informed that with the help of Punjab Safe City Authority, complete monitoring will be done.

TRAINS: Departure of various passenger trains from Lahore to various destinations was delayed due to late arrival caused by fog and other weather-related issues.

According to a spokesman for Pakistan Railways, the trains departed late also included Business Express that departed at 6:30 pm instead of the actual departure time of 4 pm on Thursday.
