CHARSADDA: Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) on Thursday expelled Senator Bahramand Khan Tangi from the party and cancelled his basic membership.

PPP Charsadda district chapter president Naeem Khan Umarzai told a press conference here on Thursday along with provincial president of Ulema and Mashaikh Wing and NA-25 candidate Pir Aftab Alam and other officials.

He said the senator was expelled on charges of remaining silent in Senate session when an independent senator, Dilawar Khan, moved a resolution in the upper house for postponing general elections due to security situation and cold weather in KP and Balochistan. The party asked the senator to resign because he has no more moral justification to remain in the party.

He said Senator Bahramand Khan Tangi had violated party rules and narrative while remaining silent on the resolution presented by Senator Dilawar Khan regarding the postponement of general elections.

He said the party had issued a show cause notice to Bahramand Khan to which he could not give a satisfactory answer. He said Bahramand Khan should resign from the senate keeping in view moral and democratic traditions as his party membership was revoked.

Meanwhile, in reaction to party decision Senator Bahramand Tangi’s son Arsalan Bahramand on Thursday joined ANP in a joint press conference with ANP provincial president Aimal Wali Khan here on Thursday.

He along with his family members quit PPP and joined ANP. He said ANP was the only representative party of Pakhuns so his family would continue its political role from the ANP platform.

In another development, the district monitoring officer imposed Rs30,000 fine on tehsil chairman Mufti Abdul Rauf Shakir for running election campaign of JUI-F candidate.

The DMO warned the tehsil chairman of further action if he repeated the mistake.
