PESHAWAR: The excise, taxation and narcotics control department arrested four persons and recovered over nine kilogrammes heroin from them, officials said here on Saturday.

Excise department officials said that Jehangir, a resident of Daudzai area, was arrested from Pakha Ghulam area on the outskirts of the provincial capital, and 32 capsules filled with heroin weighing 250 grams were recovered from him.

The officials said that the capsules were hidden inside a juice packet, and claimed that the accused person was member of an international gang of drug traffickers. They added that drugs were initially being smuggled to Islamabad and later outside Pakistan.

The excise officials also said that the department arrested three persons, including Akhtar Ali, Amjad Ali and Ali Shah, residents of Swabi district, during search of vehicle here on Monday last, and recovered 9.6 kilogrammes of hashish from them.

They said that cases were registered against all the accused at the excise police station for Peshawar region.
