QUETTA: The Balochistan government has imposed limitations on candidates’ movements and prohibited election events and campaigns due to a threat alert regarding the potential presence of a female suicide bomber in Quetta.

According to a press release issued by the deputy commissioner, a credible report indicates the presence of a female suicide bomber in Quetta, with intentions to target political leaders, campaign gatherings, and candidates participating in the election scheduled for February 8.

“The political leaders and candidates restrict their movement and avoid holding public meetings and election gatherings at open places, especially on February 4, 5 and 6 in order to avoid any untoward incident,” the DC’s notification said.

Meanwhile, Balochistan Information Minister Jan Achakzai said on Sunday that internet services will be temporarily restricted in sensitive polling booths located in various areas of Balochistan.

“Ensuring the safety and security of common citizens is of utmost importance, as there is a concern that terrorists may exploit social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, and other similar channels for communication purposes,” he added.
