KARACHI: Sindh Election Commissioner Sharifullah on Monday said 19,006 polling stations had been set up across the province for around 26.995 million registered voters.

He also stated that the ballot papers and other election material had been transported to the offices of district returning officers in all the districts in the province and the process of deployment of polling staff was in process.

Mr Sharifullah, along with Joint Provincial Election Commissioner Sardar Nazar Abbas, was speaking to the media at the office of provincial election commissioner.

He further said that all election material will be delivered to the respective polling stations by Wednesday and claimed that they had yet to receive any complaint about the election process.

The election commissioner Sindh stated that they were in contact with the provincial government, director general Sindh Rangers and other institutions concerned to ensure proper security during the Feb 8 general elections.

The closed-circuit television cameras had been installed at all sensitive polling stations throughout the province and all the preparations and arrangements for the polls had been put in place, he added.

About possibility of closure of internet service on polling day, he did not rule out the same, but said that the government will decide about it keeping the law and order situation in view.

Mr Abbas was of the view that Rangers personnel would be deployed outside the polling stations and training was also provided to the personnel of law enforcement agencies to be deployed for security of elections.

There are 6,524 sensitive or highly sensitive polling stations in the province and the contingent of Rangers and police will be posted at such polling stations. The polling agents must lodge complaints if they could not get form-45, he added.
