RAWALPINDI: The police have arrested a NA-52 candidate and his two supporters on charges of snatching documents and a laptop from the polling staff as they reached Gujar Khan after completing their job at the Harnal Returning Office.

Police said that aside from arresting the candidate and his two supporters, they have recovered the laptop and documents from the accused.

A police spokesman noted that the incident occurred outside the Returning Officer’s (RO) office when NA-52 candidate Tariq Aziz Bhatti and his two supporters stopped the car of polling staff and snatched the laptop and other documents from them.

He added that shortly after the incident happened, the police arrested Mr Bhatti, Raza Ali, and Arsalan and recovered the documents and laptop from them.

Besides, legal action was being initiated regarding the incident, the spokesman said.

He added that peaceful conduct of the election is the first responsibility; violation of the law will not be tolerated, and anyone involved in breaking the law will be prosecuted without discrimination.
