SWAT: Police claimed to have arrested two members of a gang involved in snatching mobile phones from people in the district.

The district police officer, Shafiullah Gandapur, told journalists at Swat Press Club o Monday that Mohammad Shoaib Afzal, a resident of Karachi, filed a complaint on February 6 about snatching a mobile phone and cash from him by two armed motorcyclists.

He said that police traced and apprehended two members of the mobile snatchers’ gang with the help of modern technology and human intelligence.

He said that the arrested men were identified as Mohammad Rehan and Fazal Wahab, both residents of Dagar in Buner district.

The DPO said that during interrogation, the arrested men confessed to similar crimes in Fizagat area. He added that police recovered five mobile phones, a jacket and Rs7,000 from them.

President of Swat Hotel Association Alhaj Zahid Khan, who was present on the occasion, commended police for their swift action. He underlined the importance of peace and safety for promotion of tourism. He said that surveillance cameras across the city would enhance security.

Shafiullah Gandapur and Zahid Khan gave away certificates of appreciation to police officials involved in investigation of the case.

POWER: Officials of Peshawar Electric Supply Company announced here on Monday that electricity would remain suspended in the district from 9am to 4pm for several days owing to repair and development work.

They said that suspension of supply was necessitated by annual maintenance of transmission lines. The affected lines include 132KV VGSS Swat, 132KV VGSS Khawaza Khela, 132KV VGSS Matta, 132KV VGSS Barikot, 132KV VGSS supply of electricity from VGSS Timargara, 132KV VGSS Manda, 132KV VGSS Lal Qila Maidan and 132KV VGSS Timargara Lal Qila section.

They said that power supply would remain suspended February 13, 14, 22, 26 and 28.

They advised locals and businesses to plan accordingly and make necessary arrangements to mitigate the inconvenience caused by the scheduled power outages.
