KARACHI: A policeman was shot dead in what investigators described as a targeted attack in New Karachi on Tuesday morning.

Central SSP Zeeshan Shafiq Siddiqi said that armed assailants, riding on a motorbike, targeted Constable Waheed Pervez, 35, as soon as he came out of his home near Nazia Square and rode away.

He suffered two bullet wounds and was taken to the Aga Khan University Hospital where he died during treatment, he added.

He said it appeared to be a targeted killing incident but the exact motive was being ascertained.

The victim was presently deputed as a police guard of a serving district and sessions judge. Before that, he had served at different police stations. His other family members were also employed with different sections/units of the police, the SSP said.
