SUKKUR: Four masked outlaws attacked policeman deployed at Shahi Bagh police check-post in Lakhidar area in Shikarpur on Wednesday.

Sources said that the masked men, who came on two motorcycles, barged into the check-post and attacked the policeman Siraj Ahmed Soomro. He fought back and succeeded to save his official weapon from being snatched, said the sources.

The assailants fled the area leaving behind the wounded policeman who was later shifted to civil hospital, he said.

He told media persons that the masked outlaws tried to snatch his official weapon and subjected him to severe torture when he put up resistance.

Heavy police force cordoned off the area and launched search operation for fleeing assailants.

Three motorcyclists rob villagers

Three dacoits intercepted two villagers on a motorcycle at Saeedabad Stop when they were on their way to Soomar Mori area and robbed them of Rs200,000 cash and the two-wheeler.

The robbers subjected Haji Mehmood Mahar and Mohammad Achar Mahar to severe beating when they offered resistance and shot at elderly Haji Mehmood, said the villagers.

People from nearby areas rushed to the crime scene and shifted the wounded to Shaikh Hamdan bin Mohammad hospital where doctors admitted him for treatment.

Later, a large number of villagers staged a demonstration against rise in lawlessness in Khanpur Mahar and raised slogans against police who had failed to maintain law and order across the Ghotki district.

They appealed to higher authorities to take notice of the rise in crime rate in Khanpur Mahar and other areas of the district and get the robbed cash and motorcycle recovered.
