NAROWAL: Two people died, and two others sustained serious injuries in incidents related to the banned sport of kite flying in Daska on Sunday.

In the first incident, Abdul Hadi (10) from Jaisarwali village fell from the roof while engaged in kite flying. He was rushed to the Daska Tehsil Headquarters Hospital o be received dead.

The second incident occurred in Dhado Basra on the outskirts of Daska, where nine-year-old Mohammad Kashif and 11-year-old Rashid Ali were flying kites on their house’s roof. They came into contact with live wires overhead. To rescue the children from the electric wires, 20-year-old Muhammad Muneeb suffered electrocution. Kashif and Rashid are now in critical condition at the Gujranwala District Headquarters.

Eyewitness Malik Muhammad Shahid said the ongoing prevalence of kite flying in Daska City and its environs was the failure of the police to curb the activity. The police attributed Muneeb’s death to electrocution from the live wires.

SAHIWAL: Farid Town police on Sunday arrested a kite seller and recovered 50 kites and 21 rolls of thread.

Police booked Ali Hyder, a resident of Scheme No 3, and registered a case under section 3 & 4 of the Punjab Prohibition of Kite Flying Ordinance 2001. The case was registered on the complaint of woman sub-inspector Shakeela Akhter.
