SUKKUR: Four young students suffered injuries when cement plaster of their classroom’s roof fell off on them at government boys main primary school in Jacobabad on Wednesday.

The district and sessions judge took notice of the incident and summoned officials of education and education works departments to the court on Feb 23.

Teachers at the school said that the roof plaster of grade-three classroom had collapsed, wounding Mohammad Suleman Jakhrani, Sumair Panhwar, Hafizur Rehman Bugti and Muzamil Brohi. “We rushed the children to the civil hospital where doctors provided them emergency medical treatment,” they said.

The school’s headmaster Irshad Ali Jaferi and office bearers of Primary Teachers Association, told media persons that the school building was in a dilapidated condition.

“We had informed director of primary schools Larkana and education works department officials in writing about the crumbling structure of the school and the serious danger it posed to children’s lives but the authorities did not take their complaint seriously,” they said.

They held officials of the education works department responsible for the precarious condition of the school building. Not only this school but most of the schools in Jacobabad were crumbling, they said.

They demanded that action should be taken against the officials concerned and the crumbling buildings of the schools should be repaired immediately so that lives of innocent children and teachers could be saved.

Meanwhile, the district and sessions judge Abdul Ghafoor Kalhoro directed Judicial Magistrate Haider Ali Bhayo to visit the affected school and submit him a report.

He also summoned district officer of education, works and services, engineer and assistant executive engineer, headmaster of the affected school and SHO of City, and ordered Jacobabad SSP to produce the officials in the court on Feb 23.
