SUKKUR: Journalists and other media workers held a protest demonstration in front of the Khairpur Press Club on Saturday and resolved to intensify their struggle for justice to the family of their senior professional colleague, Jan Mohammad Mahar, who was murdered on the night intervening Aug 13 and 14 last year by unknown assailants near Saint Saviour School in Sukkur.

Charged protesters raised slogans against police and provincial authorities for having failed to arrest and take to task his killers despite a lapse of many months now.

The demonstration was led by Khairpur Press Club President Khan Mohammad Khan, General Secretary Sanaullah Memon, former president Qadir Soomro and senior journalists Mian Ghulam Hussain Fateh.

Speaking to the participants, the leaders highlighted Mr Mahar’s bold and honest reporting and his commitment to convey people’s voice and issues to the authorities concerned and elected houses.

They condemned that enemies of humanity and truthfulness silenced the bold voice in journalism. They regretted that chief ministers and home ministers of the previous and caretaker governments miserably failed to fulfill their responsibility of sending Mr Mahar’s killers behind bars and exposing perpetrators of the gruesome murder despite making tall claims in this regard.

The protesters urged the Sindh IGP, Sukkur DIG and provincial authorities concerned to ensure arrest of Mr Mahar’s killers and all those involved in his murder.
