RAWALPINDI: The divisional administration has asked the Rawalpindi Waste Management Company (RWMC) to come up with a new plan to improve the sanitation system in the district.

It also asked Rawalpindi Municipal Corporation (RMC) to remove encroachments and complete the ongoing development works in the city areas without any delay.

Wasa will ensure supply of water to consumers without any hurdle and present a new plan to deal with water shortage in the summer season along with cleanliness of Leh Nullah.

Commissioner Rawalpindi Division Engineer Aamer Khattak expressed these views at a meeting with RWMC, RMC and Wasa officials.

Chief Municipal Officer Amjad Hussain, Wasa acting Managing Director Saleem Ashraf and RWMC Chief Executive Officer Rana Sajid Safdar attended the meeting.

The RWMC officials in a briefing said the company was established in 2013 and started its operations on April 1, 2014. At present, the company is conducting cleaning operations in Rawalpindi city, Murree, Gujar Khan, Taxila and Kahota.

The transfer station is located near Liaquat Bagh from where all solid waste is taken to Losar.

RMC officials informed the meeting that Rakh Dhamial graveyard, Allama Iqbal Library renovation and establishment of an IT hub had been completed.

Wasa officials said the construction of Daducha Dam was in progress to resolve water problem in the city. The number of Wasa Rawalpindi consumers is 152,000 and there are 480 tubewells and 128 water filtration plants.

The commissioner said RWMC officials should come up with a new plan to improve the sanitation system.

“It is our responsibility to provide a clean environment to the citizens. Machinery should be kept fully operational. No negligence will be tolerated.”

He said practical measures will be taken to resolve public issues.

Performance of all concerned departments will be reviewed and public welfare projects will be completed on time.
