In markets, there are all types of greeting cards available with a variety of designs and sizes, featuring different colours, patterns, textures and shapes, making it hard to choose from. However, it is always fun to make greeting cards yourself, as this is not just an enjoyable activity that boosts creativity, but it is also budget-friendly.

Today, we are making a small, handy card that will carry your heartfelt message for special occasions like a birthday, graduation, wedding, or any other event for your friend or family member. The creative possibilities are endless — you can change the object on the card from a heart to a star, earth, moon, sun, or even any cartoon character.

Directions:

  1. Start by cutting the foam and the glitter sheet (A) into a 5-inch long and 3.5-inch-wide rectangle, as shown in pictures 2 and 3.

  2. Taking only the glitter sheet piece, make a 1 centimetre wide and a 4-inch long slit in the centre, as shown in picture 4.

  3. Take the glitter sheet (B) and cut out a heart from it, up to a maximum size of 1.5 inches based on the card’s dimensions, as shown in picture 5.

  4. Cut the heart in half, see picture 6.

  5. Take the right half of the heart and stick it on the right edge of the slit you just made on the card, picture 7.

  6. Cut a strip from the foam sheet, a bit larger than the slit you made on the glitter piece, picture 8, (you already have a rectangle piece from the foam sheet).

  7. Paste this foam strip on the slit area but on the back of the glitter piece. Then, paste the rectangle foam piece on the back covering the strip as seen in pictures 9 and 10.

  8. Paste the left part of the heart on the left side but remember to paste it on the strip area that is visible from the slit, see picture 11.

  9. So when the strip is pulled from the right side, the left part of the heart slides through and joins its other half. Write your message or wish in this area and slide back the strip so that the message or wish remains hidden, picture 12.
