Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari, while speaking in the National Assembly, said he welcomes steps taken by newly-elected Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif in giving subsidies to farmers for fertilisers, as was in the PPP’s 10-point manifesto, he noted.

He called for a shutdown of giving subsidies to businesses, saying: “We cannot afford to be a social welfare state for the rich.”

He also recommended that Shehbaz create provincial revenue boards and set targets for collecting sales tax.

The nation is waiting on us to solve their problems, he added.
