KARACHI: A suspected robber was shot dead in an ‘encounter’ in Bufferzone on Monday, police said.

Central SSP Zeeshan Shafiq Siddiqi said the encounter took place in Khawasti Brohi Goth, Sector-16-A, in which the suspect was wounded. He was taken to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where died during treatment. His accomplice managed to escape.

The police had obtained his past criminal record. A cell phone recovered from his custody was recently snatched from the limits of Taimuria police. The police also seized a motorbike which was snatched from the limits of Sharea Noorjehan police as per the record maintained by the Citizens Police Liaison Committee (CPLC).

He was identified by robbery victims Mohammed Hamza and Arif Husain, with the latter saying that the killed suspect and his accomplice had snatched a two-wheeler from him at gunpoint.

‘Neighbourhood care project’ launched in Jauhar

The CPLC East in collaboration with district East police on Monday launched a ‘neighbourhood care project, in Gulistan-i-Jauhar in a ceremony attended by CPLC chief Zubair Habib, East SSP Irfan Bahadur and notables of the area.

They urged the citizens to come forward and help local people to ensure a better place for living and working. With help of the project, the speakers said, street crimes could be curbed through installation of CCTV cameras, command and control room and presence of the area people.
