KARACHI: A Japanese pottery lecture and workshop was held at the Japan Information and Culture Center (JICC) on Wednesday.

The participants of the engaging lecture and workshop were students from Behbud Boys’ Secondary School Karachi. Starting with a pack of dry clay, some water and flowery aprons, the boys were shown pottery items, which they can easily make themselves by using just their hands.

Miss Abeer Asim of Mudpie Studios educated the students about Japanese pottery and fascinating handicrafts that originate from Ishikawa Prefecture. Ishikawa Prefecture is home to the Noto Peninsula, where the 2024 New Years Day Earthquake occurred.

Later, putting on the printed yellow and purple aprons to keep their school uniforms from getting dirty, while looking very silly though cute, the boys tried their hands at making clay pottery on the potter’s lathe or pottery wheel.

They learned how to shape and design the pots according to their wishes. They were also allowed to pack up and take their clay creations home with them in boxes provided to them by JICC.
