HARIPUR: The Tarbela Dam authorities have set up the Wapda Hydel Museum in the powerhouse’s vicinity.

The initiative is meant to preserve the heritage of Wapda hydropower stations, according to an official statement issued here on Thursday.

It added that the museum showcased models of the Jabban hydel power station (1937) and the structural model of the Tarbela Dam.

Also, ‘old and unique’ electromechanical equipment and parts of the Wapda power stations in Jabban, Warsak, Tarbela, Renala, Kurram Garhi, and Chitral have been put on display there. The museum was formally inaugurated by Wapda member (power) Jamil Akhtar.

General Manager (hydel) Mohammad Ihsanullah, general manager of Tarbela powerhouse Nasr Minallah, Wapda (Tarbela Dam) general manager Anwar Shah, chief engineer (O&M) Mohammad Tariq, chief engineer Toresh Kumar, Tarbela power station chief Naseem Khan, and representatives of the Wapda hydro-union also attended the function.

BUTCHERS HELD: The district administration on Thursday sent 10 butchers to jail and sealed 16 butcher shops here for profiteering. The action came over people’s complaints.

Assistant commissioner of Ghazi Fiza Mohsin checked meat prices in different markets and found 16 butchers to be selling beef with bones for Rs900 per kg against the notified rate of Rs750 per kg.

She sealed all those shops, sent eight butchers to jail for one month, and booked eight for closing their shops to escape legal action.
