Ever wonder how good mutants can improve their skills before they are sent into the real world to fight the bad mutants? How can they stand their ground and know what to do even in the toughest conditions?

In The X-Men School, Michael Teitelbaum takes the readers behind the scenes of the iconic institution where mutants are prepped for a future where they can co-exist with humans and save the world from those who don’t believe in this union.

The book revolves around Professor X’s School for Gifted Youngsters where all mutants are eligible for admission. Why he started a school in the first place, who were the first students, and how the place has expanded into a haven for mutants is something the author touches on in these pages.

Every X-Men fan knows why Professor Charles Xavier is bound to a wheelchair due to an accident during a fight; this book tells you about that accident. You might know that Cyclops, Iceman, Archangel, Beast and Phoenix were amongst the first students to train under Professor X, but this book shows you what made them special in the first place.

Laced with illustrations of the major of the X-Men, the book also takes the readers to all the corners of the X-Men School. If the place houses a jet named Blackbird in an underground hangar, there is a Danger Room where the students have a free run to use their powers on each other, under supervision of course.

Like most DK Readers Level 3 books, this one is suitable for young readers, especially since the text is accompanied by informative boxes that add colour to this already colourful book. You can read it alone without having to keep a dictionary nearby, nor would you need an adult’s supervision to make you understand some of the words. The glossary at the end will take care of that and will ensure that by the time you are through, your knowledge of X-Men will be at par with the mutants out there.
