KARACHI: A suspected robber was shot dead by a citizen in Gulshan-i-Maymar in the small hours of Friday, police said.

They said that the suspect, Asmatullah, was gunned down by the firing of a citizen during a robbery near Fatima Hospital at Janjal Goth.

Area SHO Waqar Kaiser said four friends were traveling in a car and as they reached near Chawal Godown, armed pillion riders intercepted them. The muggers attempted to snatch cash and other valuables from them.

In the meantime, a citizen, identified as Zameen Khan, took out his licensed pistol and opened fire on them. As a result, one of the suspects suffered two bullet wounds in the back and died on the spot. However, his accomplice managed to escape from the crime scene.

The SHO said the suspects also returned fire but missed their target and only glasses of the victims’ car were shattered.

The body was shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for medico-legal formalities.
