KARACHI: A fast-moving car knocked down to death a policeman in the Zamzama Commercial area on Thursday, officials said.

Clifton SHO Azam Rajpar said Constable Kamran Khan, 47 was crossing the main Zamzama street in DHA Phase V when he was hit by the speeding car being driven by an underage driver.

He said that the police arrested the driver, identified as Hassan Hussain. The 17-year-old suspect is an O Level student and a resident of a nearby housing scheme, he added.

The victim was presently deputed as a police guard of a judge.

The body was shifted to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for medico-legal formalities.

Blast in mobile charger sets flat on fire

Three persons were rescued when a fire erupted in a multi-storey building in Clifton on Thursday, according to rescue services.

Rescue-1122 official Hassaan Khan said that the fire erupted in a flat located on the fifth floor of ‘Royal Skyline,’ Block-2. It was a 12-13 floor residential building. Fifth floor was vacated by the residents. Firemen rescued three people. Official said that a ‘blast’ occurred in the mobile charger which triggered the fire.
