KOHAT: The traders on Sunday protested against the cantonment board for increasing different taxes and rents of shops from 50 to 500 per cent in alleged violation of an agreement.

They also demanded immediate de-sealing of some of their shops so they can earn livelihood for their families.

Speaking to the protesters, president of the traders’ union Mansoor Bangash said the cantonment board should abide by the agreement, which stipulated a 15 per cent increase in rents after three years or yearly in some cases.

He said they would approach the provincial and federal authorities for remedy. He regretted that the cantonment authorities had sealed some shops four days ago, but the business outlets were yet to be de-sealed.

Bangash demanded the transfer of the board’s chief executive officer for his alleged highhandedness. He warned that if their demands were not met they would come onto the roads.
