KARACHI: Veteran diplomat and former chief of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Shaharyar Khan, who passed away in Lahore on Saturday, was laid to rest at his ancestral home in Karachi on Saturday.

A large number of people including current and former members of Pakistan cricket team, his family members, friends and former colleagues attended the funeral prayers held at Bhopal House in Malir. He was laid to rest in the same place next to his mother.

Shaharyar Khan had performed many roles during his distinguished career between 1957 and 1994 at the foreign ministry, including foreign secretary, ambassador and high commissioner.

He had also served as the ambassador to Jordan, the United Kingdom and France. He was appointed UN secretary-general’s special representative in Rwanda in 1994.

Born in undivided India, he migrated to Pakistan in 1950 with his mother, Princess Abida Sultaan, the daughter of Nawab of Bhopal Hamidullah Khan.He had also served twice as the chairman of the PCB from December 2003 to October 2006 and from August 2014 to August 2017.
