Attock free of bird flu virus: DCO

ATTOCK, March 9: District Coordination Officer (DCO), Attock, Nasir Khan Babar on Thursday claimed that in Attock district no case of bird flu virus has so far reported. However, livestock department had been asked to register all the poultry farms of the district and impart basic training to officials of agriculture and health departments to handle emergency situation.

This he said in a meeting, convened here to review the preventive measures for the avian flu. The meeting was also attended by the executive district officers (EDOs) of health and agriculture departments, district officers, livestock, wild life, Attock and representatives of Poultry Farm Association of Attock district.

The district coordination officer has directed the officials of livestock and poultry production departments to collect samples from the local poultry farms on regular basis and send them to the research laboratories for tests, besides monitoring poultry farms.

He said all departments should also keep close liaison with each other and with poultry farm owners in this regard and also submit their daily report to him over their day-to-day performance.

He also asked the heath department to monitor the patients at all health institutions of the district and if found any patient with suspect avian influenza, should be shifted to isolation ward.

The officials of agriculture and livestock departments told the meeting that preventive and monitoring measures are being taken to assess the situation in the district Attock besides giving advice and training to their officials and workers to help contain any outbreak of the bird flu.
