GUJRANWALA, March 9: The city district government on Thursday approved a surplus budget of Rs3.8 billion for the year 2005-06. The budget session was presided over by naib nazim Jamal Hasan Manj, while nazim Fiaz Chattha presented the budget.

The nazim said Rs246 million would be spent on development projects under the annual development programme; and Rs280 million had been allocated for citizen community boards.

He said as many as 57 new development schemes and some 123 ongoing schemes would be completed during the current fiscal year. The meeting also adopted a resolution unanimously condemning the publication of blasphemous cartoons.
