SHANGLA: The police on Thursday increased security checks at the entry and exit points of Shangla district, especially those on the Karakoram Highway, after the killing of Chinese workers in a suicide attack in Shangla district last Tuesday.

The move will ensure better protection of highway users, including Chinese nationals, according to the police.

Five Chinese engineers working on the Dasu Dam perished as an explosive-laden vehicle hit the bus they’re travelling in on the Karakoram Highway in the Bisham area.

In a statement, district police officer Imran Khan said that after a “thorough” inspection of checkposts on the Karakoram Highway, he ordered sub-divisional police officers and station house officers of tehsils in Shangla district to increase the number of security personnel there to protect the lives of travellers.

DPO says move to ensure better protection of travellers

He added that security personnel posted to entry and exit points in Dandai, Shangla Top, Yakhtangay, Kandaw, Shahedy Sar, Pandiar, and other areas had been put on high alert to prevent any untoward incidents in the future, while more officials had also been deployed there.

The DPO directed SDPOs and SHOs to check security measures by themselves.

SDPO (security) Aitbar Khan visited sensitive places in the district and ordered tighter security for the sites of development projects and residences of foreigners, including private hotels.

HELD: The Olandar police on Thursday arrested a man over a murder.

Olandar SHO Bakht Zeb Khan insisted that Rahim Shah had killed his 16-year-old neighbour, Ihsanullah, in the Belkanai area last week over a drainage pipe dispute. He said the police shifted the accused to the lockup and began interrogating him.

GUTTED: A fire destroyed a house in the Lilownai area of Alpuri tehsil here on Thursday morning.

However, no one was hurt in the incident.

Rescue 1122 said an electric short circuit caused the fire to engulf the entire house in no time.

It added that firefighters quickly reached the house and put out the fire, preventing it from spreading to other houses.

Meanwhile, assistant commissioner of Bisham tehsil Adnan Khan conducted raids in Bisham bazaar on Thursday and booked two butchers for selling unhealthy minced meat.

Accompanied by the police and his staff members, he inspected the prices charged for and quality of food items, fruits, and milk.

The AC sent two butchers to jail after the registration of cases over the sale of unhealthy minced meat.

He warned shopkeepers of strict action, including detention, for fleecing consumers and selling substandard food.
