NO CHANGE

NO CHANGE: When one looks around at the current political landscape of Pakistan, it is more than apparent that despite significant activity, the basic, underlying issues have remained largely unchanged. The more things change, the more they stay the same, they say, and that is precisely the maxim that comes to one’s mind in the context of the nation’s political history. Some divine help may seem in order.

UNITED PAKISTAN: This is with reference to the editorial ‘Civilian dreams’ (March 9). Our country is currently caught in various problems, ranging from hyperinflation to political crises. The reluctance of our politicians to collaborate is damaging Pakistan’s image internationally, and is diminishing the trust of the citizens. Our political leaders must learn from their past mistakes and work collectively by setting aside differences to lead the country towards prosperity and peace. In these critical times, they should prioritise national interests over personal agendas, and unite for the sake of the country. Only through unity can Pakistan become a peaceful and safe country.

SOME ADVICE: As somebody who was a teacher of President Asif Ali Zardari while he was at Cadet College Petaro, I have an advice that may ensure a glorious place in the political history of Pakistan for the man. He should dedicate all his efforts, energies and resources to put political and moral influence on parliamentarians and policymakers to frame laws that give relief to the poor. However, charity begins at home, and, that being so, he should surrender all his property within and outside Pakistan in the name of poor and make small houses for them, give their children scholarships and open free dispensaries in remote villages and slums. In doing all this, everything is within his means. He will not have to go through any red-tapism at all. After all, he will be using his own money.
